Job Summary:
The EHS and Training Specialist is responsible for promoting a safe, compliant, and well-trained workforce by developing and enforcing safety policies and overseeing employee training programs. This role also supports Human Resources with onboarding, compliance, employee engagement, and workforce development initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
• Work safely in every case and promote safety at every interaction with associates.
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
• Lead, coordinate, and manage safety training programs including new hire orientation, annual refresher courses, job-specific training, and Alchemy.
• Maintain accurate training records and certification logs for all employees.
• Investigate workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries, documenting findings and recommending preventative measures.
• Support emergency response planning and conduct regular drills, including fire, evacuation, and chemical spill scenarios.
• Collaborate with HR to ensure EHS components are integrated into onboarding and offboarding processes (Badges, keys, etc.).
• Manage compliance tracking systems to ensure timely completion of training and safety requirements.
• Serve as a liaison between the company and regulatory agencies, including participating in audits or inspections.
• Conduct safety committee meetings and serve as a subject matter expert on EHS topics.
• Lead ergonomic assessments and workplace adjustments to prevent repetitive motion injuries or musculoskeletal disorders.
• Monitor and manage safety-related supplies and equipment, such as PPE, first aid kits, and signage.
• Develop and distribute safety communications, such as bulletins, alerts, and safety topics.
• Track and report safety metrics and KPIs, including injury rates, training compliance, and audit findings.
• Support HR in wellness initiatives and employee engagement programs related to health and safety.
• Collaborate closely with the Human Resources department, assisting with HR-related projects and supporting routine HR functions as needed.
• Manage Workers’ Compensation cases, including follow-ups, return-to-work coordination, ADA accommodations, and documentation with the guidance of the HR Manager.
• Stay current with EHS laws and industry best practices, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Promote a strong safety culture through visibility, coaching, and positive reinforcement.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.

Requirements:
• Experience in occupational safety and health (at least 2-4 years).
• Experience with e-learning platforms, training tools, and workplace safety program implementation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information.
• Solid knowledge of OSHA and other safety regulations, with experience in risk assessments and data analysis.
• Sharp attention to detail and strong observational skills for identifying safety concerns.
• Experience in business continuity and emergency management/preparedness.
Preferred Certifications:
• Licensed Emergency Medical Responder.
• HazWopper.
• ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800.
• OSHA 10, 30, 45001.
• Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST) certification by BCSP.
Environment:
• Frequent time on the production floor with varying temperatures.
• Regular bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Must frequently navigate stairs, often while carrying items.
• Prolonged periods of computer use required.
• Loud noise levels may be present in the work environment.
• Exposure to various food ingredients, including potential allergens.
• Frequent use of hands and arms, including overhead reaching.
